Meredith Conry, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

As a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, I am licensed and trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders in adults. Our work together may include a variety of interventions, including lifestyle coaching, therapy and/or medication. When necessary, I may recommend that you have testing done to get more information about your physical health and genetics. This can help improve your treatment outcomes.

During our first meeting, my priority is to develop a positive working relationship with you. This is the foundation of treatment and creates the most successful road to recovery. In your initial evaluation, I will do a comprehensive assessment of who you are, your health history, your values, and your goals for treatment.

I find the strengths you have and try to capitalize on them. I do not focus solely on symptoms, but try to understand the bigger picture of why you are experiencing this right now in your life. What is the context?

With your legal consent, I often collaborate with your other health care providers, such as your therapist, your primary care provider, or your naturopath.

I want to hear about your life story, and the assessment will not just be about your symptoms. The initial evaluation is typically 1.5 hours and the follow-up appointments are 30 minutes. My longer appointment times allow me to get to know you as a person. Your goals are important to me. If you view medication as a short-term solution, we will discuss a game plan of how long you should be on it, and weigh the risks versus benefits of continuing or tapering off. During our time together, I like to get a sense of how you are taking care of yourself, and help you develop healthier lifestyle routines that ultimately help improve your mental health.

Why would you see a nurse practitioner over a doctor? Research has shown that NPs spend more time with patients, have a better bedside manner, and are less disease focused. One of the core philosophies of nursing is to be a partner and collaborator with patients. I will meet you where you’re at. My role is not to hand down treatment orders but to share my clinical training and experience with you and develop goals together.

My RN and NP degrees were earned at NYU College of Nursing. During my career as a NP, I’ve worked with college students, young adults entering their first careers, new parents, and women in perimenopause or postmenopause. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I’m passionate about destigmatizing mental health problems and normalizing mental health care as a part of holistic wellness.
