DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS

A diagnostic evaluation will help you gain clarity about your current experience and how to best manage it. I will spend 90 minutes initially assessing your current mental health state, medical history, family history, and substance use. At the end of this appointment we determine what would best benefit you: medication, therapy or both.

ONGOING MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

Ongoing medication management will help make sure the treatment we choose is targeting your problematic symptoms. If a medication is prescribed, I usually recommend meeting again in 4 weeks, depending on the severity of your symptoms. These appointments are typically 30 minutes long, Your response to the medication is assessed and if side-effects arise, we discuss how to manage them.

Short-term solution-focused CBT

An added benefit of 30 minute follow-up appointments is that we have an opportunity to examine thought patterns you have had that may be contributing to your current challenges. First you will gain awareness of the constant negative chatter in your head. Then I will teach you how to challenge, and then replace those thoughts with more realistic and positive ones.

Specialties

Young Adults

You recently started a new job. Repetitive thoughts of self-doubt are becoming intrusive. Checking things over and over again, like emails or your phone or even your front door lock initially helped you calm down. Now it does the opposite. Intellectually, you know this is not good for you, but you can’t stop.

New Parents

As a new parent, you tell yourself that you are overjoyed, yet you can’t stop crying. You’re raging at your spouse, and you wonder if you have the capability of caring for someone else. Taking showers and even bathing others is beyond difficult. It’s hard to remember who you were before this, or what having fun was like. Postpartum depression for a mother or father can be devastating to not only the parental bond, but the intimate relationship as well.

ADHD

People have always described you as ‘scatter-brained.’ Attending to all the ‘little’ things in life, like paying bills on time, feels completely overwhelming. It’s a running joke with your friends that you’re always 20 minutes late, but you’ve missed important appointments because of your difficulty with managing your time. Getting assessed and treated for ADHD may or may not include medication, and/or creating new behaviors that help with organization. With the right treatment, you will feel like you’re in control of your life.

Peri/Postmenopausal Women

Your body feels different. You don’t remember when you last got a good night’s sleep. You are in a fog all the time, and wonder if you’re having problems with your memory. It’s hard to regulate your body’s temperature, and weight seems to be coming on more quickly than it used to. Research has shown that some women experiencing these symptoms benefit from antidepressant medications. With the right fit, medication can allow you to feel yourself again and comfortable in your skin.
